Ships on top of a compass

GASS develops innovative commercial technology and services for optimizing vessel and voyage performance. Our outcomes enable vessels' increased energy efficiency during voyages, which will lead to reduced fuel consumption, which further translates to reduced GHG emissions.

Outcomes & Impacts

GASS will develop innovative commercial technology and services for optimising vessel and voyage performance.

The outcomes will enable vessels' increased energy efficiency during voyages, which will lead to reduced fuel consumption, which further translates to reduced GHG emissions. This outcome will have significant environmental and economic benefits.

For vessel owners, the impact will be in reducing ship operating costs and carbon emissions, while facilitating compliance with the increasingly stringent regulatory frameworks for reducing carbon emissions from shipping.

The environmental impact will be in reducing carbon emissions by 20% demonstrated for seven vessels during the project lifetime (by 2026).

By 2050, we aim to have 30% of the global vessels using GASS solutions.

Assuming shipping would be responsible for 17% of global GHG emissions by this time in the absence of GASS, a 30% uptake of GASS services would result in a significant 1% reduction of global GHG emissions.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS

GASS will enhance sustainable vessel and voyage performance by developing novel AI-enhanced technology and Go2Market services.

We believe this is possible by leveraging massive data sources to improve the energy efficiency of voyages through a range of operations including optimised voyage routing and speed.

CYBER SECURITY

At GASS, we understand the importance of cyber security in the shipping industry. Our advanced cyber security solutions ensure that vessels are protected from cyber threats and potential attacks.

REAL-TIME DATA ANALYSIS

Our technology solutions provide real-time data analysis and insights to improve vessel and voyage performance. With GASS, vessel operators can make informed decisions that enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

OUR JOURNEY SO FAR

2023

GASS IS FOUNDED

GASS was founded with a clear mission: to develop technology and services that optimize vessel and voyage performance. Our team of experts began researching and innovating new solutions to reduce fuel consumption and GHG emissions.

KICK-OFF MEETING

The project partners spent two valuable days in March getting to know each other better, and determine first actions to be prioritize. The timeline was presented.

2024 Milestone 1

Unveiling the Digital Twin Architecture

We are thrilled to announce that the GASS Project has successfully achieved its first major milestone: the report about our Digital Twin Architecture. This achievement represents a significant leap forward in our mission to lower greenhouse gas emissions in the oceanic shipping industry.

FIRST SENSOR & WIRELESS NETWORK INSTALLATION

The installation happened onboard GriegStar vessel Star Kinn, and it includes the ScanReach Onboard Wireless Connectivity  (OWC) mesh network, NMEA GPS and a motion reference unit (MRU) sensor. Trond Liabø at ScanReach and the vessel crew on board Star Kinn did an excellent installation job.

NAVTOR collects the MRU sensor data and other valuable data in their NavCloud. Together with SIMULA, the project works together in defining and predicting factors causing fossil fuel consumption for a vessel underway.
